  • Note*: She "Last Chapter of Love". Blackpool Railway Tragedy. A singular story was told at an inquest on Monday night at Blackpool, on a signal fitter, Henry Wall, of 99, Handsworth road, Blackpool, aged thirty, who was found killed outside Talbot road Station on Friday night.
Edith Iddison, barmaid at the Duke of York Hotel, Dickson-road, said the man bad pestered her for three months to go for a walk, to go to the theatre, or to the skating rink with him. She told him she was engaged, and that he worried her. Several times he threatened to shoot himself, a threat he repeated on Friday. A letter he addressed to "Dolly", the name he gave Miss Iddison, ran:
"The last chapter of love for women for me. I loved Dolly passionately, tenderly in fact. I loved her so much that I stood insults that were hurled at me daily. It would not have mattered had we been alone, but for a man to be held up to ridicule in front of strangers shows that the girl thinks less about him than the dirt under her feet. She told me to go away, my face worried her. She would not walk out with a thing like me. Ah well, I hope she will be happy. Dear little girlie."
A verdict was returned of "Found killed on the line" though the Coroner said the evidence suggested suicide. on 28 May 1909.7
